Planting seeds

It’s been a long bitterly cold winter. Just as I started to watch the snow melt away this week to reveal the brown grass underneath, my area just got hit with 2-3 inches of snow. Honestly, I love winter and I love how the white snow covers the icky brown and makes it beautiful outside. BUT, like so many, I’m beginning to ache for spring.

And so I’m finding myself today planting seeds in hopeful anticipation of spring. Of course, the flowers will not go outside until the temperature is right, but I can tend to them inside helping to usher in a sign of the changing season. As I prep the soil, I’m struck at how soft and nutrient rich it is, so welcoming for tiny tender plants. I’m reminded of the Parable of the Seed & the Sower. I prayerfully ask God to make the soil of my heart to be like this beautiful dirt. May my heart receive the seeds of hope, peace, love, and…. well, I’ll let the Master Gardener wisely plant what is needed.

Now that the seeds are planted, I rest. I rest in hope, anticipating what will come. I rest in peace, grounded in this moment in what is for God continues to work even when I cannot see. These flower pots are that tangible reminder for me.

For reflection:

What tangible reminder of God’s Presence do you need today to renew your heart? I invite you to take a little time to make that a reality.
