Loved by God, love others.
“Love God, love others”. In my family, we often say this to each other as we part from each other for the day. One says, “Love God” and others respond, ”Love others”.
It is based upon Matthew 22.
An expert in the laws asks Jesus, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
While listening this Sunday to a sermon on this passage, I remembered our little mantra. And it changed to “Loved by God, love others” -(connecting with 1 John especially chapters 3 & 4)
How rich is God’s love for us that we should be children of God. And that is what we are! Do you feel it? God’s love is pouring into us, filling to overflowing. With that love, we can love others. Especially in these deeply troubling times and tensions are high - let’s keep our eyes fixed upon our God who loves us. From that place then we are able to love others.
